Breaking News-San Francisco falls in the ocean.

(rant on)
San Francisco has decided to put proposition K on the ballot which forbids local authorities from investigating, arresting or prosecuting anyone selling sex. So now San Fran can boast of "medical" marijuanna clubs, gayness beyond gay, sado-masochism festivals and legal prostitution. I am sure San Fran is a great place for restaurants, has some cool people & some of the highest property values in the world, but I expect it to drop into the sea right...about...NOW!

Bama -vs-TN, GnR

The big day is upon us. The only way for the Vols to salvage this season is to beat Bama's brains out. At least that would ease the pain of not going to a BCS bowl. Being a Vol fan isn't easy this year. Crappy overall record, a dismal 1-3 conference record & everyone wants Phil's head on a platter stuffed with pecan dressing. I don't blame Coach Fulmer. He has no QB to work with, an average front line, 2 mediocre RB's and a defense that only wants to administer "Oooohhh Licks". My Jr. High coach told us an "Oooohhhh Lick" was one hit that makes the whole crowd go Oooohhh! The problem, with that is you gotta wrap up the runner after that. It seems the defensive players all just wanna get on Sportscenter & aren't playing as a team.
I am calling this one for Bama. The Tide wins 17-13. Probably would have been the same had it been in Tuscaloosa. This is UT vs Bama. One of the biggest rivalries in the south. I don't really care about the Ohio State vs Michigan game but I really get pumped up for the Vols/Crimson Tide game.
This all started in grade school. My neighbor across the street was a big Bama fan and a world class jerk. He had a big mouth and small brain. Used the mouth alot and the brain not so much. He was mouthing off about Bama beating UT one year and when they lost, I let him have it for months. It also stems from my uncle handing down a TN jersey that was bright orange an 2 sizes too big for me. Even though it was from UT-Martin, it was orange and I pretended it was a Vols jersey. So at 7:45 ET, I will be watching the game in my Vols hoodie, flying my Orange flag & eating elephant burgers. I like to pull for the underdog.

Speaking of underdogs. Guns and Roses released their long awaited title track from Chinese Democracy this week. The release date will be Nov. 23rd for the entire album with a vinyl LP that comes with a digital download. I am not a huge fan of GnR but I don't dislike their music. I find it interesting that it was reported that they have spent over $13 million dollars on one album. Oh yeah...this was reported in 2005...by someone who had not been in on the project for 6 years. That is a lotta scratch for 14 tracks. Just give me 1/10th of that and I'll give you an all out rocker in less than half the time. I can't judge the new CD, but I am pretty sure it will not be ground breaking to the tune of $13mil plus. I hope the best for them because they need to sell alot of digital downloads to break even. That being said, this is supposed to be a trilogy and that makes it a little easier to swallow. But they all better rock my face off. I'd like to have it just to see what kind of studio tricks were involved.
If I run across some extra money that I cannot figure out how to spend, I might go get it. Until than I'll be singing Rocky Top. If Bama wins, I'll have to call my stepdad and take it on the chin. (he's a big Bama fan). If UT wins I might do an online search to find the moron from grade school's number and call him up & give him a big, long distance bronx cheer.

Go Vols,

The Weather, meds and phobias

Well, Indian summer did not last very long. It was 27 degrees last night and the first night we have had the heat on this season. We haven't had the air conditioning on since mid August, so It's been nice and cozy around here. The highs this week are in the mid 50's/lower 60's and the low's are in the 20's and 30's. Nippy indeed. I am enjoying this though. It helps with my sinuses and allergies I have picked up in my adulthood. I have been on Claratin D every spring and fall for the last few years and this time I got the Wal-Mart brand of Claratin called Equate. It has just the opposite effect on me. After about 3 hours I can fall asleep standing up if I wanted to. Usually when I take sinus meds I get all wired and drop about 10 pounds instantly, but this stuff makes me wanna fall asleep and Does not help with my headaches. I do not normally get headaches so this is making me a little more than cranky. I feel like Keith Richards looks.

I also enjoy this time of year because it is the last of the days where we get more sunshine than cloud cover. I've been told that I have seasonal affective disorder a.k.a seasonal depression. The U.S. National Library of Medicine notes " Some people experience a serious mood change with the change of the seasons. They may sleep too much(check), have little energy(check), crave sweet and /or starchy foods(check, check), and feel generally depressed (and check). To combat this you need light therapy (no thanks), medication (BIG no), ionized-air reception (sounds expensive) and carefully timed supplementation of the harmone melatonin (huh?)". I think the money and the time invested in this type of therapy could be better invested in sending me to watercolor for a month.
I just need a break from Ohio right now. I need to at least get down south and see some old friends and family, eat some good food and listen to some great live music. If I could get to the gulf, that would just be a bonus. We did not take a vacation this year and we usually go to the Florida Gulf Coast. This year we bought a car instead. Even though I have a slight fear of the water, I love being in, near or on the ocean. Specifically, the Gulf near Destin. I do not like the lake or ocean water where I cannot see my toes. I do not like pools that are too big or too small or the slightest bit dirty/cloudy. I like the waters on the gulf.
I also thought that I was claustrophobic, but I have lately realised that I am neither claustrophobic or hydrophobic but am afraid of being suffocated. I cannot find a name for that phobia. I'll call it getoffmephobia. That could explain some problems in my relationships. I just need a disc cleanup, defrag and error check for my brain right now. I might need a whole new operating system for my head. I already had my antivirus download.

I got me a flu shot. If you had told me 30 years ago that I would volunteer to drive myself to the doctor and have dead flu virus injected in me on purpose, I would have kicked you in the shin....& cried a little. Hey I would have been 10 or so. I didn't even feel the injection but I didn't get the lollipop or the Dora stickers I was hoping for. So for the last couple of days I have felt a little more odd than usual.I know you are supposed to feel some aches and pain, a little fever maybe and some lethargy, but my brain likes to go over the top. I love me some conspiracy theories. We all should know by now that flu shots have little minute tracking devices in them so the government can find all of the survivors of any epidemic that pops up in any given flu season. You see, I live near an Air Force base that is supposed to house the aliens from Roswell. It is also home to the "gaybomb" that was developed in the 90's to protect us from the pink menace or something like that. They do that so us healthy people can defend our "gay bombs" and aliens in case of emergency.

All of this thinking, dead flu bugs and paranoia are making me sleepy & I need to call my HMO to see if they will cover my vacation...er...treatment at a private condo...er... I mean medical facility in Florida. Or at hanger 18 w/ the aliens.

Ramblin man

* rant on* Well I am gonna ramble. Ramble on & on & on. I will undoubtedly show my ignorance here, but I am not in shock that we are in this financial mess. I mean what is the stock market but a giant casino? Everyone knows the house always wins. So the media coverage that the news outlets are giving this crisis is making the little guys nervous and they are pulling out their money and putting it under their mattresses and in mason jars in their back yard. I say it is time to stop the madness. I am sure the $700b dollars will not help. We have now privatized gains and socialized losses. It is a win/win for any bigwig that has the mucho dollars to go nuts and start buying up the little guys. I have very little in the stock market and I really don't care about this mess. I feel we have been living off of the motto " the business of America is business" for too long. We need to get back to manufacturing and creating jobs-in the private sector- that doesn't charge " what the market will bear".
Up here in my little bubble, the GM plant will close Dec 23rd. This is not good news for the people that support the economy I live in. What you are not gonna hear on the news is that these workers made an insane amount of money for unskilled labor due to labor unions. I am talking in the neighborhood of 50-75k for standing on a line and WATCHING parts go by. A great gig if you can get it. I have heard from people that work there that on Sundays you were making time and a half, some around $47 an hour and they have a contest to see who could go the slowest. So...that's why a stinking Chevy SUV cost $30,000 for a piece of crap. The unions complain that all the jobs are going to other countries and they are not paying them well. IF you are in another country and you are used to making $20 dollars a day and GM comes in and wants to pay you $8 an hour-more money than anyone you know has ever made-you are gonna work you butt off and try your hardest not to get fired. There are waiting lists in Mexico for these jobs and the slackers get fired. No guaranteed jobs. You gotta show up and work hard. OF course, GM doesn't lower their prices, they try to cover their losses from the plants in the U.S. that are still losing money.
I am just saying, I don't have all of the answers, I might not have any. I just know if I was in charge and I ran a company into near bankruptcy, I would not get several million dollars when I got fired. I also know if I had a company and the workers wanted to make 50k to sleep on the job, sabotage the line so they could all take a break to play cards and have contests to go slow so they would have to be there for more overtime, I would move that company to Sri Lanka or Canada or Mexico to escape the piss poor workforce I had been forced to have. * Rant off* Yeah, probably Mexico for the carnitas, margaritas and senoritas"

You gotta dig this

It is a dry, sultry indian summer here in my little piece of Ohio. No rain for the last 12 days and a thunderstorm rolls in unexpectantly while I am watching this video. They look, at times, like they are playing on someones coffee table with that huge picture in the background. Dig this, while I stall.
Dig it man,
SF
p.s. I started doing this about 11pm-took me 2+ hours to figure out how to embed a video. Y'all are in trouble now. More to come-including my favorite post pop band from New Mexico.

Midwest windstorm & other debris

A week and a half ago, or so, we had a windstorm by the name of Ike roll through here like an uninvited relative crashing on your couch. For seven hours the wind whipped like it was gonna tear the roof off of the sucker, bending trees and blowing all manner of debris all over Indiana, Kentucky and my little slice of heaven here in Ohio. Shingles were flying and trees were toppling and the kids were afraid. Really afraid. I have always liked storms and thunder and rain and impending tornadoes. So I took them outside and showed them that there was really nothing to fear as long as you were aware of your surroundings and didn't do anything stupid, like crawling on your roof to inspect the damage while the wind is blowing 78 miles per hour. Right about that time a huge tree fell about a block away. I though it was pretty cool. The kids...not so much.
None of this bothered me until the electricity went out around 2:30. You see this was a Sunday and after we get home from church I settle in for a day of football on T.V. and watching my fantasy football scores on the computer. The lights flickered a couple of time and I had to reboot the computer 3 times but I never expected this tragedy to rain down on me. So after the realization that the football was done for the day I did what any sane man would do. I drove around looking for a hotwing joint with HD T.V.'s and electricity. I found none. It seems that the closest television that worked was just north of Nashville and I wasn't about to drive that far just to watch football. Well... I would've had the wife let me and we had a full tank of gas, but I really needed to stay with my family in this time of need.
So it starts getting dark and the wind dies down and I cannot find a "C" cell battery to save my life. I mean we really needed to listen to the radio for weather information and possibly some football scores, but mostly weather info. I made an adventure out of the night and we all slept in the downstairs den ( until my back and neck started hurting-I went upstairs to sleep in bliss ) with candles in the fireplace and all around the kitchen. We played UNO Attack and Go- Fish and told stories until the little ones fell asleep.
Well that is the end of day 1 of the "Big Wind" story and I will return with part two of the story when football is over. As I type this U.S.C. is getting their hat handed to them. You didn't know this would be the first installment in the MY BORING LIFE series.
Break like the wind,
